WHO ARE WE? WHAT ARE WE? ARTISTS OR CRAFTERS?
The Webster New World Dictionary defines ART as the human ability to make things; skill, craftsmanship; any branch of creative work, especially painting, drawing or work in any other graphic or plastic medium.
It defines an ARTIST as a person who does anything well, with imagination and a feeling for form, effect, etc.
The Webster New World Dictionary defines CRAFT as a special skill, art or dexterity; an occupation requiring special skill.
It defines CRAFTSMAN as a worker in a skilled trade; an artist sometimes said of one skilled in the mechanics of his art, but lacking artistry.
ART, the word of widest application denotes in its broadest sense merely the ability to make something or to execute a plan.
This is who and what we are. We take our favorite medium whether it be rubberstamps, papers, inks, words, etc., and create with it. We take our ideas, arrange them into a plan and glue to form a one of a kind piece of art work.
We as stampers do not have to have the ability to draw a straight line. We can merely take up where someone left off. We can take an image, add color, texture, embellishments and make it our own piece of creativity.
On a personal note: It is the opinion of this author that as parents we are also artist. We may or may not plan for a child but once that child is conceived it is our responsibility as parents to instill into our children love, kindness, caring, rules, morals, fundamentals, and discipline to end up with the very best adult that we can.
